on the road toward congruence

21 11 2009

i took a risk to talk about my feelings and needs in an honest and non-reactive manner. i did not discount myself or other people or present context. i was myself. i kept my self-worth intact.

According to Satir’s model of therapy, an individual manifests congruence when he or she:

– takes risks on his or her wn behalf, even before settling fears.

– replies to questions directly.. instead of first asking “why do you want to know?”

– listens to his or her intuition.. for new possibilities, choices, resolutions..

– names specific desires without giving a long rationale.
